With the way society has changed, it preaches equality and love. While it may seem like this is right and proper, it is not the case. Current day theology that of the general public would say that you can marry whoever you want and that everything is permissible. The issue is that as a Christian we are bound by the Word of God. For us, the final word is not society but rather Gods Word. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? Now it is important to understand that this verse, to my knowledge, was not written at this place in scripture as a reference to marriage but rather a guide for all relationships. A yoke is a piece of equipment used to connect two oxen in order that they pull other equipment. So in this verse, we are told to not be bound or linked with unbelievers.

Alicia May 17, at 4: I decided to search for this topic on your site, since I am a believer married to an unbeliever. It is amazing how true the scripture is on this topic. It is definitely difficult having different beliefs and views. With completely different moral views, it will be a challenge. Satan sure is a good deceiver!

If the reasoning would be to try to bring an unbeliever to Christ as part of your dating relationship with the person, then you probably have the wrong idea for dating. You can never determine whether a person will come to accept Christ in the future.

But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? I’m just a layman; I do not attempt to talk in theological levels, but rather I try to teach The Word in a way that common people can comprehend it, and I believe we’re accomplishing that given the response we’re getting.

Now let’s review verse 1: You find the mysteries only in the letters of Paul. Paul says in verse 2: For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified; but he that judgeth me is the Lord. They were so steeped in the things of the world. Even as Paul has garnered this little group of believers, remember they had just come out of this kind of background.

8 Bible verses about Marriages, Believers With Unbelievers

Is it right for a Christian to date or marry a non-Christian? For a Christian, dating a non-Christian is unwise, and marrying one is not an option. The imagery is of two incompatible oxen sharing the same yoke. Instead of working together to pull the load, they would be working against each other. While this passage does not specifically mention marriage, it definitely has implications for marriage.

Another verse that comes to mind that lets us know God’s command regarding marriage is, “A woman is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.” [1 Corinthians ] The context is speaking of a Christian woman whose husband dies, but the principle is the same, when Christians marry, they must marry a believer.

Do you know of any Bible verses pertaining to Christians dating non-Christians? Answer The Bible does not speak specifically of “dating” however, since dating is a process in our culture that two people use to find out if they would be compatible for marriage, and that the possibility of “falling in love” always exists in dating, therefore I believe the Bible has a very clear statement regarding dating: For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?

Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial [Satan]? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? Since marriage is one of the highest spiritual relationships we can have here on earth between people, “being married in Christ”, then it would also fit dating. A man and woman was designed and created by God to have a spiritual, physical, and emotional relationship.

A prime factor in the failure of marriages in our culture is the lack of spiritual relationship between a husband and wife.
